The San Isidro Lighthouse was built in 1904 by George Slight, who at that time was inspector general of lighthouses and in charge of the design of the lighthouses in the Strait of Magellan. Its location was chosen because of its accessibility to Cape Froward, being a strategic place to guide navigations towards the coast of Punta Arenas. At the beginning of the 20th century, a factory of the Magallanes whaling society operated in Bahía El Águila.
Shortly after its construction, the San Isidro Lighthouse became the southern terminus of the Territorial Telegraph System. The lighthouse is currently used as a tourist site, since it is easily accessible and has a beautiful landscape environment.

Trekking to Mount Tarn
Pick up from accommodation place, and departure to Punta Arbol area, located 75 kms south from Punta Arenas, where the last 20 kms are gravel. Cost route next to Magallanes Strait, and native forest, where it´s possible to watch marine fauna and birds, according to the season.
The trekking its about 8 kilometers in total, trought the beach, where you can see flora and fauna, views of Dawson island and Darwin Mountains.
Arrival to San Isidro Lighthouse. We take a time to eat your lunch, and apreciate the views.
Trekking to return, 4 kilómeters about, until the start place, in Punta Arbol.

This trekking it´s available all year. There is no entrance ticket to pay.
Kids between 3 and 12 years old, have a 50% of discount in the tour price, infants under 3 years old have free rate.
